Red Thread Thinking - Book Review

Have you ever wonder how successful people in the world or how the innovator thinks? How could they solve the problem that society needs? How could they make sure that their innovation works for the majority of users? Also, how they could convince the investor with their innovation? Red Thread Thinking Book could answer these questions.

This book is recommended for someone who starts to learn how to innovate and train your brain to get used to thinking about innovation. The author told us a lot of tidbits about innovations in American culture or all over the world, from various fields, so we could learn by examples and look at things from different angles. This book could also help people who stuck or off the track along with the innovation or problem-solving process.

By developing four core areas—capturing new ideas, engaging in challenging tasks, broadening knowledge, and interacting with stimulating people and places—people can enhance their brain’s ability to innovate.

By having a red thread thinking, we can feel that it's okay to keep optimist, it's okay to fall and start to modify our innovation again, and it's okay to be different from the others. Also, the core message that this book given us is innovation does not come just for the rich or special people. Every person in the world, in any age and any economic class, can find innovation from what they see around them.

Once we finished each big chapters, we could see the bridge between each chapter and what the author wants to tell us about the next topic. This book gave us a more concrete approach than an abstract way of explanation of creativity and innovation.

For innovation to really “work,” it has to succeed from both the consumer side and the business side, not just be creative.

However, in reality, people often relating the "creation" process with "brainstorming", meanwhile it's not fully true. Creating something new just by brainstorming will not work that easily. As this book said, "Brainstorming works not in creating the original idea, but its expansion and refinement." and we fully agree with this.

This book has a red thread thinking title because we have a lot of things we need to think about when we are innovating something. But how to connect all the aspects and find the innovation that answers the problem? Here, our thoughts are connected with the red thread to finally solve the problem, creating it, and put it to the market.

“An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.”

The connection is the core of everything here, between the information, knowledge or theories, and observations of the users of your product as a reality. Red Thread connects the opportunity to create a business that speaks to people's lives, needs, and sense of humanity. Red Thread Thinking proves that we all have the power to design and develop thoughts into things. Red Thread Thinking helps you innovate for the marketplace, which means that your innovative product, business, or service must have value if it is to generate profitable growth and improve competitive advantage. So, innovation is about making linkages between things that people haven't thought to link together before.
